At Hikma Connect, safety is foundational to everything we build. When you invite a care aide into your home, trust matters. That’s why our onboarding process includes thoughtful screening designed to help families make informed, confident decisions—while respecting the dignity of caregivers.

We combine three key components: a criminal background check, a review of publicly available social media presence, and a review of references provided by the care aide during onboarding.

Why Safety Screening Matters

Care aides often work inside homes and closely with children. Families deserve peace of mind, and caregivers deserve a platform that protects trust on both sides. Background checks are one part of a larger safety approach—helping surface relevant publicly available information and supporting transparency throughout the hiring process.

What Our Screening Includes

1) Criminal Background Check

Care aides may complete a standard criminal background check through a trusted third-party provider, which can include:

  • Identity verification (such as name and date of birth matching)

  • National criminal records search (where available)

  • Sex offender registry search

  • Multi-jurisdictional database search

These checks use publicly available records and are designed to highlight convictions or registrations that may be relevant to caregiving responsibilities.

Note: Families may see an indicator that a check was completed, while detailed reports are handled securely and confidentially in accordance with applicable laws and privacy requirements.

2) Public Social Media Presence Review

During onboarding, care aides may be asked to share their public social media accounts for review. This review focuses on:

  • Publicly visible content only

  • Signals related to safety, professionalism, and appropriateness

  • No access to private messages or restricted content

This step provides additional context and helps families feel more confident when making hiring decisions.

3) References Provided During Onboarding

Care aides are encouraged to provide references as part of onboarding, such as:

  • Previous families or employers

  • Community members or professional contacts

References help validate experience, reliability, communication, and caregiving style. Families are encouraged to contact references directly and ask questions that matter most to them.

How Families Should Use Screening Information

We encourage families to use screening as one part of a complete hiring decision:

  • Review the care aide’s profile and screening indicators

  • Interview the caregiver and align on expectations

  • Speak with references

  • Start with a shorter first booking when possible

The strongest hiring decisions come from combining screening with real conversation and clear expectations.

Important Limitations & Considerations

Background checks are helpful tools, but no screening is perfect:

  • No background check can guarantee future behavior

  • Public records vary by state and jurisdiction

  • Some records may be incomplete, delayed, or legally restricted

  • Screening only applies to the individual named in the request

For these reasons, screening should be paired with interviews, references, and ongoing communication.

Privacy, Consent, and Responsible Use

Hikma Connect takes privacy seriously. Care aides must authorize any background check, and screening is conducted through reputable providers. Where applicable, the process follows consumer-reporting and privacy requirements (including Fair Credit Reporting Act considerations).

We aim to protect families while treating caregivers with fairness and respect.

Our Commitment to Safety

Hikma Connect is built on trust, transparency, and community care. By combining criminal screening, public social media review, and reference review, we help families hire with greater confidence—and support a safer experience for everyone on the platform.
